Hi all,
If anyone needs to see the actual motion that I proposed (re: program chair, 3 year term, overlapping 1 and 3rd year with outgoing/incoming chairs), please let me know and we can ask Laura to post it here too.
Otherwise, to re-cap, the reason I proposed this was based on an interest of formalizing continuity and support for program chairs.
I want to reiterate, the proposal does NOT suggest a permanent position.
However, it has been stated that there exists informal networks that provide the support I suggest we formalize. It would be beneficial to hear from previous program chairs about their experiences (as Laura has already done on the list serve) - both when they served and how the process was for them. This could be a wealth of information for those who are less knowledgeable (like myself) about what has happened in the past, and what support structures currently exist, if any.

I wanted to also encourage, in addition to hearing from past program chairs about their own experiences, that if people have other suggestions/motions or whatever, to please bring them forward! This motion is just one possible way of addressing what, in my limited experience being with FTGS for the past 3 years or so, I have observed to be a possible challenge (transfer of knowledge and support). Those who have much more experience can likely offer more well-rounded suggestions, and help make the existing networks more transparent! I look forward to the discussion.
